Wandering albatross in full flight, Bird Island, South Georgia
The Wandering albatross is the largest of the 4 albatross species that breed at South Georgia. With a wing span of up to 3.5 m these birds are truly impressive. What never ceases to amaze me is the way that the head is held so that the field of view is always horizontal, no matter how steep the turn. Taken on 29 November 2015 on a quick excursion up to Wanderer Ridge in between working cargo at the British Antarctic Survey base of Bird Island. Canon 7Dii and 100-400mm at 153 mm, exposure 1/800 sec at f/8.0; ISO 100
