Gentoo penguin chick on Landing Beach, Bird Island, South Georgia

End of November 2015 and in between our science work we call into Bird Island to discharge cargo and new base members. After a busy day carrying boxes we find time to walk over to this small penguin colony and are rewarded when a very young chick makes an appearance of literally seconds. Taken with Canon 7Dii and 100-400 at 400 mm. Exposure was 1/1000 sec at f/5.6; ISO 100
