Sediment trap being attached to mooring cable, deep mooring, Scotia Sea, Antarctica
The sediment trap is just a big fancy funnel that will sample anything sinking down through the water. It will sit taking a new sample every 2-4 weeks throughout the year. Here the mooring team links the sediment trap between the long sections of kevlar rope. Taken in November 2014 on cruise JR304 with Canon 5 Diii and 17-40mm f/4 at 20 mm. Exposure was 1/50 sec at f/11; ISO 100
