Deep mooring recovery off South Georgia
This mooring has been sitting in water more than 3000 m deep for just on one year. The orange buoy seen here at the surface will sit at 200 m and then suspended below at 2000 m are sediment traps and CTDs. The tabular iceberg in the background is about 60 m high and more than 1 mile long. It must have passed over the mooring while it was submerged as the depth record on the buoy went from 200 m to more than 500 m and then back to 200 m. Taken on 28 November 2014 with Canon 5Diii and 70-200 mm f/2.8 at 200 mm. Exposure was 1/400 sec at f/5.6; ISO 100
